PHOENIX – An April 4 story about this winter’s lingering El Niño misstated the timing of the climatological pattern. Surface temperatures in the eastern Pacific Ocean near the equator normally begin to rise in the fall, peak in the winter and dissipate by spring, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
