Here are quick facts about the Gila topminnow:
_ Formal Name: Poeciliopsis occidentalis
_ Status: Endangered
_ Original Range: Elevations below 5,200 in southern and central Arizona and into western New Mexico. Once the most common fish species in the Gila River basin.
_Size: Females grow to slightly more than 2 inches. Males are half that size.
_ Lifespan: 2 years.
_ Reproduction: Only native fish in Arizona to give birth to live young.
