CORRECTION to April 30 story on Arizona climate change

EDS: Clients who used a Cronkite News story slugged “BC-CNS-Climate Change ” that moved Monday, April 30, under a PHOENIX dateline, are asked to use the following correction. A corrected version of the story has been posted here.

PHOENIX – An April 30 Cronkite News story about climate change in Arizona incorrectly said climate researchers predicted Arizona could be unlivable by 2050. Climate researchers said a changing climate would have substantial effects on the demand for water by 2060, but they did not use the word “unlivable.” That was used by the news site Vice in a story on the report. The Cronkite article also referenced a 2012 U.S. Bureau of Reclamation report on Lake Mead water levels, but incorrectly stated that the lake was at its lowest level since 2011. USBR readings show that the lake level was far lower in 2016. It continues to fluctuate, but the lake is now higher than 2016.
