Glendale soldier remembered as humble, quiet

WASHINGTON (Thursday, June2) _ Smiling out from the pages of his high school yearbook a decade ago, when he was voted “Prettiest Eyes” in his class at Trevor Browne High School, Martin R. Apolinar seems far removed from his future as an Army rifleman, machine gunner and team leader. But he enlisted three years after graduation and had become a staff sergeant when he was killed by a roadside bomb this week in Wardak Province, Afghanistan. The “very humble” Glendale man’s sacrifice was honored this week by state officials, while family members kept to themselves.
