NOTE: This is one of a series of biographical sketches Cronkite News Service is producing about new members of the Arizona State Legislature. Each follows this format and includes a mugshot and video.

_ Name: Jeff Dial

_ Chamber: House of Representatives

_ Party: Republican

_ Profession: Realtor, executive vice president of Dial Chemical Inc.

_ Hometown: Chandler

_ Legislative District: No. 20, which includes Ahwatukee and parts of Tempe and Chandler.

_ Committee Assignments: Banking and Insurance; Military Affairs and Public Safety; Technology and Infrastructure.
_ Previous or Current Elected Offices: District 20 Republican precinct committeeman; state committeeman; Marlborough Estates Homeowner Association Board, president.

_ Highlights of Community Involvement: American Red Cross East Valley Disaster Action Team; National Rifle Association.
_ Why He Ran: “After I got out of college, just being involved in business and seeing the impact that government really has on a business either to hurt it a lot of times or hopefully make a better business climate, I figured I could do a better job.”

_ His Focus: “I really wanted to get the discussion rolling on jobs and making Arizona more competitive … bringing everyone together and just talking about all the issues out there … So my focus has really just been getting the good ideas out there and making them happen.”

_ A Bill: A strike-everything amendment to HB 2289 would allow the Arizona Department of Revenue to collect all transaction privilege taxes on behalf of municipalities. Businesses such as property management companies that pay taxes on rental collections could make one quarterly payment to the department instead of many payments to each city in which they do business.
