By Cronkite News Service
Here are programs offered by the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE), set up in the 1950s to allow Western states to share higher education resources:
Professional Student Exchange Program
Allows students to enroll in professional programs out of state, usually because those fields aren’t offered at public institutions in their states. Students receive preference in admission and pay resident tuition at public institutions and reduced tuition at private schools.
Western Regional Graduate Program
Graduate students studying in a limited number of programs pay resident tuition.
Western Undergraduate Exchange
Arizona residents may enroll in certain programs at two- and four-year public institutions in other Western states. Tuition is 150 percent of the host school’s resident tuition.
