FIGURES ON TEEN DRINKING FROM ‘DRAW THE LINE’

With BC-CNS-Underage Drinking

Here is information on underage drinking provided by organizers of “Draw the Line,” a statewide effort aimed at educating adults:

_ Alcohol is the most commonly abused substance among Arizona 8^th-, 10^th– and 12^th-graders.

_ Most Arizona high school students say their parents do not speak to them about alcohol.

_ Arizona ranks 20th among all states for underage binge drinking.

_ Underage drinkers are 22 times more likely to use marijuana and 50 times more likely to use cocaine.

_ Adolescents who drink heavily are three to four times more likely to attempt suicide than non-drinkers.
