Here are key facts about the blood sport of hog-dog fighting, which officials say is a problem in Arizona:
_ A trained dog attacks a wild pig in an enclosed area. The dog must bite and hold on to the hog to score a “pin.”
_ Grew out of wild hog hunting in the South, appearing in the last 15 years.
_Hogs’ tusks usually are removed to protect the dogs, which often wear Kevlar vests or collars
_ Documented in Arizona in 2004, when Yavapai County Sheriff’s officers broke up an operation staging hog-dog fights in Mayer.
