I’M ATHENA ANKRAH…
HEADLINE 1 – Planned Parenthood promises fight
THE FUTURE OF ABORTION LAW IN ARIZONA REMAINS UNCERTAIN. PLANNED PARENTHOOD SAID MONDAY IT WILL APPEAL A PIMA COUNTY JUDGE’S RULING TO RESTORE A PRE-TERRITORIAL LAW THAT CRIMINALIZED ABORTION. SOME CLINICS, INCLUDING PLANNED PARENTHOOD, HAVE ALREADY STOPPED PROVIDING ABORTION SERVICES. MANY ARE INSTEAD REFERRING PATIENTS TO FACILITIES IN NEARBY STATES WHERE THE PROCEDURE IS STILL LEGAL.
AZ school voucher likely to fail
A MASSIVE EXPANSION OF ARIZONA’S PRIVATE SCHOOL VOUCHER SYSTEM WILL LIKELY TAKE EFFECT. THAT’S AFTER PUBLIC SCHOOL ADVOCATES FAILED TO GATHER ENOUGH SIGNATURES TO BLOCK THE LAW. THAT’S ACCORDING TO A CONSERVATIVE THINK TANK THAT SUPPORTS THE EXPANSION. THE VOUCHER SYSTEM GIVES ARIZONA PARENTS THE ABILITY TO USE PUBLIC SCHOOL FUNDING FOR PRIVATE SCHOOL TUITION OR OTHER EDUCATIONAL COSTS. OPPONENTS ESTIMATE THAT AS MUCH AS ONE BILLION DOLLARS COULD BE TAKEN OUT OF PUBLIC SCHOOL FUNDS. THE EXPANSION OF THE VOUCHER SYSTEM WAS A KEY GOAL OF THE GOVERNOR.

“Make it right! Make it right! Make it right!”
(**nat sound**)
*cheers*
MICHAEL MASSONI IS THE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNION THAT REPRESENTS FLIGHT ATTENDANTS.
“It’s been wrong for way too long – it’s time for Southwest Airlines to make it right.”
FLIGHT ATTENDANTS ARE DEMANDING NEW CONTRACTS AFTER EXPERIENCING MANY COMPLICATIONS DUE TO THE PANDEMIC INCLUDING, MASSONI SAYS, RUDE PASSENGERS…
“This unruliness is directed at flight attendants because we are the face of the airline.”
THIS IS JUST ONE OF THE MANY ISSUES AIRLINE WORKERS SAY THEY’VE FACED SINCE THE PANDEMIC INCLUDING DELAYS… RE-ROUTES… AIRLINE TECHNOLOGY FAILURES… AND EVEN THREATS OF PAY CUTS.
SOUTHWEST AIRLINES SAID IN A STATEMENT IT LOOKS FORWARD TO CONTINUING NEGOTIATIONS WITH THE UNION. THEY ALSO SAID THE CULTURE OF THE AIRLINE RESPECTS THEIR EMPLOYEES AND ENCOURAGES THEM TO EXPRESS THEIR OPINIONS.
(**nat sound**)
“What do we want? Contracts! When do we want it? Now!”
UNION VICE PRESIDENT MASSONI SAYS THEY ARE NOT ONLY DOING THIS FOR THEMSELVES BUT FOR THEIR PASSENGERS AS WELL.
“We’re advocating for our customers too. Because if we fix the operational problems that also fixes it for the customer.”
OFF DUTY FLIGHT ATTENDANTS FROM SOUTHWEST TOOK PART IN THE DEMONSTRATION TUESDAY.THIS WAS ONE OF 11 ACTIONS AT AIRPORTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN FIVE FLIGHT ATTENDANTS FROM THE UNION AND THE AIRLINES ARE SET TO RESUME DURING THE FIRST AND LAST WEEK OF NOVEMBER.
YOORI HAN, CRONKITE NEWS
Crowder Suns trade
THE PHOENIX SUNS WILL BEGIN THE UPCOMING YEAR WITHOUT ONE OF THEIR KEY CONTRIBUTORS FROM LAST YEAR’S TEAM THAT SET A FRANCHISE RECORD IN WINS. FORWARD JAE CROWDER STARTED SIXTY SEVEN GAMES LAST SEASON, BUT WILL NOT REPORT TO TEAM TRAINING CAMP WHILE THE SUNS SEEK TO TRADE HIM.
CROWDER WAS REPORTEDLY DENIED A CONTRACT EXTENSION BY THE SUNS AND WAS TOLD HE WOULD HAVE A DIMINISHED ROLE IN THE UPCOMING SEASON. IN CROWDER’S ABSENCE, EXPECT FOURTH-YEAR FORWARD CAMERON JOHNSON TO SEE AN INCREASE IN PLAYING TIME.
