TIPS FOR SAFE HIKING IN THE DESERT

Superstition Search and Rescue offers these safety tips for those planning to hike in the desert:
_ Water: At least 1 gallon per person per day.
_ Map: To find your way and communicate your location to rescuers.
_ Compass: Critical for navigation.
_ Flashlight/Headlamp: For finding your way in the dark.
_ Extra Food: Generates warmth and increases strength.
_ Extra Clothing: The desert gets cold at night.
_ Sunglasses: Prevents eye damage.
_ First Aid Supplies: At least some sterile gauze pads, Band-Aids and an antiseptic.
_ Knife or Multi-Tool: Can be incredibly helpful in an emergency.
_ Matches or Fire Starter: You might need a fire for warmth or to signal rescuers.
