The Arizona State Board on Geographic and Historic Names is responsible for determining appropriate place names in Arizona. Authorized under Revised Statues 41-835.02, the board consists of nine members who aren’t paid. Here is the membership breakdown:
One member appointed by the heads of the following organizations (five-year terms):
_ Arizona Department of Transportation
_ Arizona State Land Department
_ Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records
_ Arizona Historical Society
_ Arizona Department of Commerce
_ Arizona Department of Economic Security
One member from a university geography department (two-year term):
_ Rotates among the three state universities.
Two members of the public appointed by the governor (five-year terms)
