CORRECTION to April 8 story on Arizona House access

EDS: Clients who used a Cronkite News story slugged BC-CNS-House Access that moved Friday, April 8, under a WASHINGTON dateline are asked to use the following correction. A corrected version of the story has been posted here. The error occurred in the 24th paragraph of the original article.

WASHINGTON – An April 8 Cronkite News story about press access to the Arizona House of Representatives misstated the background of a reporter involved. Arizona Capitol Times reporter Hank Stephenson has a 2014 misdemeanor conviction, according to his paper.

Correction to April 8 story on Arizona’s bioscience industry

PHOENIX – An April 8 Cronkite News story about Arizona’s bioscience industry incorrectly identified the amount of money the state received from the National Institutes of Health in 2013 and 2015. The state received about $182 million from the organization in 2013 and about $151 million in 2015, according to the Flinn Foundation.

 

 

Correction to March 29 story on inmate suicide attempts

PHOENIX – A March 29 Cronkite News story about inmate suicides incorrectly identified the number of suicides and deaths. There were nearly 500 incidents in Arizona’s prison system in which convicts attempted to hurt themselves or kill themselves. Two inmates have died by suicide this year.

 

CORRECTION to March 1 story on court ruling in drug case

WASHINGTON – A March 1 Cronkite News story about a federal appeals court ruling in a Tucson drug sentencing incorrectly identified the dissenting judge in the case. Ninth U.S. Circuit Court Judge Consuelo Callahan is a woman.

 

CORRECTION to Feb. 2 story on uranium mines cleanup

EDS: Clients who used a Cronkite News story slugged BC-CNS-Uranium Pollution that moved Tuesday, Feb. 2, under a WASHINGTON dateline are asked to use the following correction. An updated version of the story has been posted here.

WASHINGTON – A Feb. 2 Cronkite News story about groups protesting high levels of uranium in the water around Sanders incorrectly identified the group that one speaker belongs to. Tommy Rock is a member of Diné No Nukes.

Correction to Dec. 24 story on Yuma unemployment

EDS: Clients who used a story slugged  BIZ-Yuma Economy that moved Thursday, Dec. 24, under a YUMA dateline, are asked to use the following correction. An updated version of the story has been posted here.

  
PHOENIX – A Dec. 24 Cronkite News story about the Yuma area incorrectly stated the scope of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly metropolitan area unemployment report. The Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the federal Office of Management and Budget, is the geographic equivalent of Yuma County and includes unemployment data outside the city of Yuma. The article also updates a quote attributed to Tom Krolik, an economist at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, who provided the quote to Cronkite News in 2012. The previous version of the story indicated he provided the quote during a recent conversation.

CORRECTION to Dec. 16 story on Theranos

EDS: Clients who used a story slugged  BC-CNS-Theranos Arizona that moved Wednesday, Dec. 16, under a PHOENIX dateline, are asked to use the following correction. An updated version of the story has been posted here. The error occurred in the 21st paragraph of the original article.
  
PHOENIX – A Dec. 16 Cronkite News story about blood-testing company Theranos incorrectly stated the scope of Food and Drug Administration action at another lab, at-home DNA-testing service 23andMe. The FDA ordered 23andMe to stop marketing its DNA test for analysis of risk factors for disease until the test could be evaluated, but the company’s other tests were not affected. The company’s products have since been returned to the market.

CORRECTION to Nov. 19 story on Arizona Snowbowl

EDS: Clients who used a story slugged  BIZ-Snowbowl that moved Thursday, Nov. 19, under a FLAGSTAFF dateline, are asked to use the following correction. An updated version of the story has been posted here.  The error occurred in the fourth paragraph of the article. 

PHOENIX – A Nov. 19 Cronkite News story about Arizona Snowbowl contained inaccurate information about the opening of the Humphrey’s Peak chairlift. The new quad lift opens mid-December to visitors.

CORRECTION to Oct. 20 story on medical tourism

EDS: Clients who used photos that accompanied the story slugged  BC-CNS-Medical Tourism, which moved Tuesday,  Oct. 20, under a NOGALES, Sonora, Mexico, dateline, are asked to use the following correction for the captions. The story was correct. An updated version of the package has been posted here.

NOGALES, Sonora, Mexico – Captions for photos that accompanied an Oct. 20 Cronkite News story, on the number of underinsured Americans who are heading to Mexico for medical services, misspelled the first name of a pharmacy employee who was quoted in the story. Crihstian Juarez Romero works at the Farmacias San Jorge in Nogales, Sonora.

CORRECTION to Oct. 19 story on House speaker’s race

WASHINGTON – An Oct. 19 Cronkite News story on public reaction to the tumultuous race for House speaker incorrectly reported the first name for one of the people quoted. His name is Joe Vazquez.

Correction to Sept. 30 article on Bedrock City

WASHINGTON– A Sept. 21 Cronkite News story on questions of church and state surrounding Pope Francis’ visit to Washington misspelled the first name of an Arizona lawmaker. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick is a Flagstaff Democrat.

 

CORRECTION to July 28 story on Cochise Regional Hospital

WASHINGTON – A July 28 Cronkite News story about the possible closure of Cochise Regional Hospital misspelled the name of a lawyer involved in the issue. The attorney representing the hospital is Harley Goldstein.

CORRECTION to July 27 story on college graduation rates

WASHINGTON – A July 27 Cronkite News story about college graduation and student loan default rates may have left the incorrect impression that graduation rate projections made by Grand Canyon University were for the current year. According to data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, Grand Canyon had a graduation rate in 2013 of 30 percent and a first-year student retention rate of 59 percent that year.

 

CORRECTION to July 23 story on Arizona’s public pensions

EDS: Clients who used a story slugged BC-CNS-Arizona Pensions that moved Thursday, July 23, under a WASHINGTON dateline, are asked to use the following correction. An updated version of the story has been posted here.

WASHINGTON – A July 23 Cronkite News story about funding for Arizona’s state-run pensions incorrectly reported the size of the unfunded liability for those funds. That number was $15.1 billion in 2013, according to a report by the Pew Charitable Trusts.

CORRECTION to July 22 story about Apaches’ Oak Flat protest

EDS: Clients who used a story slugged BC-CNS-Apache Bill that moved Wednesday, July 22, under a WASHINGTON dateline, are asked to use the following correction. A updated version of the story has been posted here.

WASHINGTON –The July 22 Cronkite News report about Apache protests against the Resolution Copper Mine had a photo caption the incorrectly identified a tribal official talking with Rep. Raul Grijalva, D-Tucson. That official is Tohono O’odham Chairman Edward D. Manuel. Additionally, the story incorrectly said Rio Tinto did not respond to a request for comment. In fact, Cronkite News was not able to contact the company Wednesday.

 

CORRECTION to July 21 story on McSally’s campaign fundraising

EDS: Clients who used a story slugged BC-CNS-McSally Million, that moved Tuesday, July 21, under a WASHINGTON dateline, are asked to use the following correction. A corrected version of the story has been posted here.

WASHINGTON – The headline on a July 21 Cronkite News report about Rep. Martha McSally’s campaign bank account cited the wrong year for the fundraising in question. According to Federal Election Commission filings, the Tucson Republican raised $1.69 million in the first half of 2015, as the story correctly reported.

CORRECTION to July 16 story on human-smuggling case

EDS: Clients who used a story slugged BC-CNS-Coyote Courts, that moved Thursday, July 16, under a WASHINGTON dateline, are asked to use the following correction. A corrected version of the story has been posted here.

WASHINGTON – A July 16 Cronkite News report on a court ruling in an asset-seizure case incorrectly reported the outcome of the two plaintiffs’ efforts to get back the money that was seized by the state of Arizona. Lia Rivadeneyra eventually got her money back, but Javier Torres never did, their attorney said.

 

CORRECTION to July 15 story on Fort Wingate land deal

EDS: Clients who used a story slugged BC-CNS-Navajo Zuni, that moved Wednesday, July 15, under a WASHINGTON dateline, are asked to use the following correction. A corrected version of the story has been posted here.

WASHINGTON – A July 15 Cronkite News report on a proposal to divide the former Fort Wingate land between the Navajo and Zuni tribes incorrectly characterized part of the 2013 negotiations that led to that plan. Tribal representatives at that 2013 meeting said only that the plan would be taken back to their respective councils for review while work on drafting a bill proceeded, according to a document from that meeting.

 

CORRECTION to June 16 story on Durant sentencing

EDS: Clients who used a story slugged Sports-Durant Sentencing, that moved Tuesday, June 16, under a PHOENIX dateline, are asked to use the following correction. A corrected version of the story has been posted here.

PHOENIX – In a June 16 Cronkite News report on the sentencing of Arizona State football recruit Davon Durant, a source incorrectly stated the process for delivering the final decision on Durant’s student status by the university. That decision will be provided only to Durant. Also, specific dates for the disciplinary process have been replaced in the story by approximate dates based on publicly available information about the process.
